Mercury OET Bill & Gamefish Tournament 2010


The Mpumalanga Deep Sea Angling Association is proud to announce the 33rd Mercury OET Bill & Gamefish Tournament hosted at Sodwana Bay from 8 to 12 November 2010.

We are also pleased to announce that we have reached our limit of 75 boats as determined by KZN Wildlife.

Skippers and Anglers are kindly requested to take note of the following important information:

  • Registration will be on Sunday, 7 November from 14h00 – 16h00 at the marquee tent within the KZN camping grounds.
  • Please forward your vehicle registrations to Wian Terblanche ( before 29 October 2010  in order for the committee to arrange vehicle permits for the gate at the camp site. (Teams will have to pay entrance fees or use their Rhino Cards at the bottom gate)
  • Own tags are to be obtained directly from ORI.
  • Please obtain your fishing licenses beforehand at your local Post Office, the Parks Board at Sodwana Bay will not be issued with fishing licenses once their current stock have been sold out.
  • Please bring all relevant electronic cables (camera, video camera, mobile phone) to the weigh-in so the committee can download your pictures and video clips for display purposes.
  • The detailed tournament rules will be made available towards the end of the month to all teams.

The Marine Police of Richards Bay has advised that any ski-boat at sea should have the following documentation available should they be boarded for inspection at sea:

  • Fishing licenses for all people on board
  • Skippers license of skipper
  • Boat license
  • Identity documents of all on board
  • Necessary radio licenses
  • VHF radio operators license
  • All necessary safety equipment
  • Pink form of seaworthy test (certificate)
  • All documents are to be certified by a Commissioner Of Oaths.

Our sponsors have really committed themselves this year and here are some details of the main prizes that are up for grabs:

  • Most meritorious fish of the tournament: 630 Cobra Cat with two 125HP Optimax Mercury outboards valued at R510,000.
  • Most meritorious fish on 10kg nominated line: Smart-ski with 40HP Mercury outboard valued at R130,000.
  • First tagged & released marlin: Fishing trip for four people aboard Broadbill, four day stay. Return flights from Johannesburg to Pemba included. Value of prize is R103,500.
  • Most sailfish released: Fishing trip to Indigo Bay Island for four people, three nights accommodation with two days fishing. Return flights included. Value of prize is R93,000.

There are many more great prizes to be won, a detailed prize list will be made available closer to time.

Sunday – 8 November 2010

09:00 – 12:30 – Boat demonstration by MALLARDS BOATING.

14:30 – 16:30 – Registration and product display at marquee tent.

17:00 – Official opening, skippers briefing. Same venue.  Bar will open after formalities have been completed.

Monday – 9 November 2010

05:00 – 07:00 – Launching of boats.

14:00 – Lines up.

16:00 – Weigh-in at marquee tent.  Bar will open at allocated time.

17:00 – Weigh-in cut off time.

Will follow – Daily prize giving at the weigh-in.

Tuesday – Thursday 10 – 12 November 2010

– Same as Monday.

– Competition results will be displayed at the marquee tent and will be updated daily.

Friday – 13 November 2010

05:00 – 07:00 – Launching of boats.

13:00 – Lines up.

15:00 – Weigh-in at marquee tent.

15:30 – Weigh-in cut off time.

19:00 for 19:30 – Prize giving at marquee tent.

– Bar will open after formalities have been completed.

– A light meal will be available.
